The Los Angeles chapter of the Institute for International Film Financing (IIFF) continues its popular monthly gatherings at the junction of film & finance with a special Film Financing Townhall at the renowned LA Film School. Their state-of-the-art facilities are conveniently located near the corner of Sunset & Vine in Hollywood.

This grassroots community get-together is designed to foster & inform productive relationships between attendees. It provides unbiased insight & education about the business of film and film financing in particular. The event features a powerful roster of highly topical speakers from the filmmaking and financial industries. We are delighted to once again welcome real-world financiers among our guests!

The evening's five seven presentations plus panel discussion address key issues relevant to filmmakers, financiers and anyone interested in the economics, business mechanics, and financial dynamics of motion pictures. They are followed by Q&A time. Attendees also have ample opportunity to interact & network with our featured experts and amongst themselves.

An informal après-meeting celebration will take place at a nearby restaurant.

Over the course of his career, Brad has worked with some of the most exciting startups in Northern and Southern California, among them such runaway successes as YouTube. Pursuing his love for the arts and film in particular, he co-founded DAP Studios in Los Angeles and has so far produced one feature-length movie, which was shot in New Mexico. The film recently won several festival prizes including the prestigious New Mexico Filmmaker Award. Brad believes in public service and actively supports many nonprofits. Anne Marie Gillen

Speaker headshot 1Anne Marie Gillen, CEO of Gillen Group, LLC, is an independent producer whose goal is to develop and produce commercially successful entertainment that enlightens the human experience. Gillen Group’s consulting division, established in 2006, offers business planning, script analysis, worldwide distribution consultation and internal greenlighting (project and/or film company cash flow projections) to independent film producers and investors. Anne Marie also served as COO for Morgan Freeman’s company, Revelations Entertainment. During her time there, the company produced Along Came A Spider (Paramount Pictures), developed Port Chicago Mutiny (NBC), and produced Under Suspicion (Sony Pictures). Anne Marie co-founded and served as CEO of Electric Shadow Pictures, and executive produced the multiple Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated film, Fried Green Tomatoes. November 2010 Ms. Gillen released her first book – the 3rd edition of “The Producer’s Business Handbook” - through Focal Press and co-branded by Variety. (more) »

Eric Forsberg

Speaker headshot 1Eric Forsberg came to Los Angeles in 1997 after helming over 60 stage productions in Chicago, where he directed talents such as STEVE CARELL, AMY SEDARIS, and STEVEN COLBERT. In LA Eric wrote spec scripts while he made his money as a 1st AD, a 2nd AD, a Field Producer, and a Casting Director. Then in 2004 Eric was hired by an up-and-coming genre movie company named The Asylum to write and direct a low budget science fiction horror film, ‘Alien Abduction. The following year Eric was hired to write one of The Asylum’s very first official “mockbusters*” (a low budget movie that has a similar title and theme to a soon to be released big budget Studio “blockbuster”). The title was ‘Snakes on a Train’, a movie which ended up being a huge hit. Since then Eric has written other “mockbusters” for The Asylum such as ’30,000 Leagues Under the Sea’, ‘Monster’, ‘War of the Worlds 2’, and the upcoming action-fantasy release, ‘Almighty Thor’. Eric has also directed his own scripts for The Asylum including the stoner comedy, ‘Sex Pot’ and the SyFy original movie, ‘Mega Piranha’ starring Barry Williams and Tiffany. As a writer, director, and producer, Eric has helmed two features, the political thriller, ‘Torture Room’ and the zombie horror, “Night of the Dead’. (more) »

Maury Rogow

Speaker headshot 1Maury Rogow started in the software and communications fields, where he was focused on business development, new business acquisition, and growing market share. He was one of the first employees of the start up GeoTel, which experienced quarter after quarter of double digit growth and was eventually sold for over $1 BILLION in stock. Maury then shifted to the entertainment industry when he co-founded RipMedia Group, where he serves as President. Maury is currently working with legendary comic creator Bob Layton (Iron Man), writer/director John Harrison (Dune, Children of Dune), Anne Marie Gillen (Fried Green Tomatoes), as producer and marketing officer. He is the Executive Producer on the feature film Bedrooms and part owner of McKim and Company, an investment bank focused on the new media and software industries. Andrea Cavallaro

Her responsibilities cover film, including coordination with film agencies like CAA, ICM, etc, as well as direct negotiations with studios, producers, and screenwriters. Her work extends into foreign and audio markets as well. In the publishing industry for 20 years, Andrea has worked for Random House Children’s Books, Harcourt Trade Publishers, and consulted for a variety of smaller publishers with focus on special markets. Lieve Jansen

Speaker headshot 1Lieve Jansen is the Vice President of Business Affairs at IFG. She joined the company in January 2005 from London based law firm Osborne Clarke where she worked as a senior solicitor (attorney) in the media & entertainment department, advising independent producers and other media clients on all aspects of film and television production, financing and distribution, sponsorship, music and other intellectual property related issues. Lieve negotiates IFG’s deals with producers, studios, lenders, distributors, and talent. Since joining IFG she has concluded bond agreements for over 60 films, including most recently “the Fighter”, “Lincoln Lawyer” and “Limitless”. (more) »

Ray Zimmerman

Speaker headshot 1Ray Zimmerman is a 30-year veteran of Hollywood, having progressed from Accountant to Production Manager to Producer to Studio Executive and is currently an Independent Producer. Ray was Sr. VP at Sony /Columbia /TriStar Pictures from 1995 – 2005 where he directly oversaw or has worked on over 100 feature films including: Cowboys & Aliens, Spider-Man 2, Jerry Maguire, As Good As It Gets, Ali, Godzilla, MiB2, Zorro 1+2, Memoirs of a Geisha, Da Vinci Code, Vertical Limit, Hitch, Holiday, Starship Troopers, Pursuit of Happyness, Prince Caspian and many more with budgets ranging from $2.5MM to $250MM+. Ray is a member of the Producer’s Guild of America and the Director’s Guild of America. He received a B.S. in Management from Miami University, Ohio and a M.S. Travis Betz

Speaker headshot 1As a cult filmmaker, web series creator, and actor, Travis Betz has made a career out of the strange, beautiful and bizarre. With four feature films under his writing/directing belt, Travis has earned the respect of the independent community for his movies Joshua, Sunday, Lo and The Dead Inside. Travis has developed a very devoted following through his web series, The Receptionist (a series that stars himself and a world of construction paper). The show has grabbed over 2 million views, with a fan base of over 46,000. Comedy Central picked up a season of the show to air on their popular program, Atom TV. Travis was also commissioned to create another original program for the channel, named "Bartokular". Soon after, Warner Brothers bought up his four episode web show, Lily's Tomb. (more) »

Brad Littlefield

Speaker headshot 10Brad Littlefield has worked with successful high technology startups in California, as well as in film production and television. In 2008, he co-founded DAP Studios, and in 2009, he produced his first feature film, "Becoming Eduardo" (Seth Adkins, A Martinez, Elizabeth Pena), which was shot in New Mexico. "Becoming Eduardo" recently won Best Latino Film 2009 at the Santa Fe Film Festival, along with the prestigious New Mexico Filmmaker Award. It was recognized as Best New Mexican Film and Audience Choice at the 2010 White Sands International Film Festival. Brad's entertainment experience includes talent and casting for MTV Networks and project management for YouTube. He is currently working with Open Range Pictures on the feature films "Traveling Salesmen" and "Desert Water," and with Remote Films on "The Devil of Appalachia." His interest in public service has led to active participation with many non-profit organizations including The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center's Legal Services Department, The San Mateo County Center for Domestic Violence Prevention and Performing Arts Studio West. Thomas Trenker
